NEW // brotherun - brotherun_ep
Brotherun can best be described as an organic yet digital electronic band that is in your face with its ambient synths, heavy when necessary leads, syncopated 808 esque drum grooves, and beautiful vocal melodies. Its hard to throw them in one genre with the vast diversity of every track on the EP.
They were kind enough to stream their EP for free on soundcloud, so listen below and throw them some love and buy their EP on iTunes here: Brotherun_EP

Washed Out's Beautiful Creation "Paracosm"
Ernest Greene of Washed Out blew everyone away the first time with his release of "Within and Without" in 2010 and set the bar for dance-pop and chill-wave artists. One could say that Ernest created a genre of his own with the mixture of ambient vocals and dance-pop like music.
From Start to finish Paracosm is a masterpiece sonically and technically. The mixes on each song leave an incredible amount of space and create an elaborate picture of what is trying to be portrayed emotionally and metaphorically.
Greene said before the release of this album that he was trying to stray away from his chill-wave genre and move forward. With the mixture of organic and electronic sounds Greene set his foot on land that has only been walked on by few.

Sick Pick of the Week // "Softly Draining Seas" by Jamie Isaac
Jamie Isaac is an extremely talented
18 year old from the UK who has been creating James Blake type tracks with the obvious influence and
help from King Krule. On "Softly Draining Seas" he collaborated with
King Krule and this can easily
be heard from a mix of elaborate
chords and underlining simplicity to
the song as a whole. This track is beautiful and moves with the aid of simple claps and snaps along with
a dreamy reverb filled piano part. Do yourself a favor and listen to this track.

Stream "Taxi Cab" by Alan Brooks // Alan Brooks Album "Alibi" Due To Drop April 19th
Introducing Cleveland native Alan Brooks, a singer/songwriter slated for his first local release. Brooks’ first EP “Getting from A to B” came out on the heels of his stay in Chicago, and now after working to get established in Ohio’s music community for the past year he’s ready to share his second group of tracks titled “Alibi”. Brooks is a bit of a departure from the more familiar folk formulas. Inspired by more soul oriented artist like John Legend he layers his vocals over guitar riffs reminiscent of Thelonious Monk’s irregular Jazz rhythms.
In contrast to A to B, which features full band compositions of city life scenes, “Alibi” are stripped down solo sketches that contemplate a more cynical perspective. Don’t mistake simplicity to mean low quality. Engineered by Jake Fader, of afro-beat favorites Mifune and Kokolo, the tracks were recorded “one take” style live in the studio. The bare bones method lets the listener hear every dynamic change of Alan’s voice and feel all dissonance of the frequent chord changes.
Alan says, “I wanted to switch things up with a live approach to the production. I think that it will give people a totally different energy to my music that a lot of classic records have.”
“Alibi” is scheduled to come out in April. You can find Brooks in the area supporting touring acts and sharing the stage with local bands. The release show will be April 19th at Uncorked in Akron with Dave Hammer and Morgan Mecaskey.

DEADHORSE ceases to amaze me with every one of their releases. Much like Sigur Rós, This Will Destroy You, and Explosions in the Sky, DEADHORSE creates a beautiful picture and a heartfelt emotion with their music. NEW STUFF // Ancient Mariner's Debut Track "Acedia"
Ancient Mariner is the brain child of Gabriel Jorgensen who reigns from Aurora, CO. After deserting his older projects, Jorgensen started Ancient Mariner with something different in mind. Jorgensen has received the label of "dream folk" from many and as you can hear in "Acedia", he is creating new soundscapes that are beautiful yet complex. The album art hints at a later EP release titled "In Solitude". Jorgensen describes this specific release "Acedia" as: "the road stretched impossibly far, with roadblock impassable, the promise belittled, the heart numb, and the mind slowed to a dreary crawl searching for an invisible horizon." "Acedia" starts out pushing to the high point and is beautifully guided there with his melodies and phrasing. The "dream folk" aspect of Ancient Mariner is then showed in the chorus with heavy, synthy, distorted guitar, and picked acoustic guitar lines. These distorted and dreamy lines lead to a huge point filled with panned guitars and aggressive vocals. After the chorus you are smoothly and softly guided to the end of the song with his melody lines and a syncopated, warm guitar line. The structure and progression of this song is incredibly diverse and shows a lot of what is to come on "In Solitude". Be on the lookout for more releases by Ancient Mariner in the future.

IT'S FINALLY HERE!! // Foals "Holy Fire"
So this was probably one of the most anticipated albums of 2012. Holy Fire was released in EU yesterday and washed ashore this morning in the US. The album was hyped up for months and was hidden like a sacred jewel by Foals. This album has a very different approach from "Total Life Forever" but still has the same Foals elements. The songs are filled with in your face melodies, delayed guitars, beautiful choruses, pop influences and a slightly less math rock feel. Foals are heading in a different direction with slight pop influences but are still staying true to their roots. You can tell there were many months put into this album from a musical and production standpoint because of the perfection and depth in the tracks. "Providence" is a perfect example of staying similar to "Total Life Forever" but with new and heavy elements by its crescendo throughout the song to a heavy and passionate end. Show some love to Foals and buy this record, you wont regret it.

Albums In Heavy Rotation // "Tunnel Blanket" by This Will Destroy You
For starts this is one of the most beautiful instrumental albums that I have heard. You can tell right off the start of the album that there are heavy influences of Sigur Ros from the mellow rhodes sounds and dreamy synths. The first time I listened to this album I was playing it off my phone and had to immediately switch to headphones to capture the full essence of this album. The emotions are perfectly captured through the movement of each and every one of the songs. The movement of this album is beautiful and cant be put to words but can only be understood through listening to it. This is definitely going to be in heavy rotation and wont be forgotten. I highly recommend this album if you are looking for a powerful and beautiful album. Stream this album below via Spotify. Enjoy this beautiful piece of musicianship.
