DEADHORSE Releases MMXIII Demo

DEADHORSE ceases to amaze me with every one of their releases.  Much like Sigur Rós, This Will Destroy You, and Explosions in the Sky, DEADHORSE creates a beautiful picture and a heartfelt emotion with their music.  With each song an intimate story is told by the quiet whispers and powerful climaxes.  Do yourself a favor and spend the $4 on MMXIII and support a great band that has been exploring and creating unique soundscapes in the past years.

NEW STUFF // Ancient Mariner's Debut Track "Acedia"

Ancient Mariner is the brain child of Gabriel Jorgensen who reigns from Aurora, CO.  After deserting his older projects, Jorgensen started Ancient Mariner with something different in mind.  Jorgensen has received the label of "dream folk" from many and as you can hear in "Acedia", he is creating new soundscapes that are beautiful yet complex.  The album art hints at a later EP release titled "In Solitude". Jorgensen describes this specific release "Acedia" as: "the road stretched impossibly far, with roadblock impassable, the promise belittled, the heart numb, and the mind slowed to a dreary crawl searching for an invisible horizon."  "Acedia" starts out pushing to the high point and is beautifully guided there with his melodies and phrasing.  The "dream folk" aspect of Ancient Mariner is then showed in the chorus with heavy, synthy, distorted guitar, and picked acoustic guitar lines.  These distorted and dreamy lines lead to a huge point filled with panned guitars and aggressive vocals.   After the chorus you are smoothly and softly guided to the end of the song with his melody lines and a syncopated, warm guitar line.  The structure and progression of this song is incredibly diverse and shows a lot of what is to come on "In Solitude". Be on the lookout for more releases by Ancient Mariner in the future.
