NEW NIGHT BEDS // "Hide From It"
Its a good day for music.
Night Beds has been a long time favorite for myself, and all of us here at Vinyl Snob. The lush spaces they create musically, paired with lyrics and melodies that just stick is something I have yet to find in another band.. I don't know.. I've always just connected with the the music this band puts out in a really deep way that I can't necessarily explain.One of the beautiful things about music is its potential to connect people emotionally. A well written song can make you cry even though you're just driving down the road, or even laugh though you're standing alone. You've never met the writer of the song.. maybe you don't even know what they look like, but you felt what they felt. Night Beds taps into this potential in a powerful way, and they continue to do so.
Reminiscent of the more produced sound of their album "Every Fire; Every Joy," this track features beautiful vocal loops, intricate drum tracks, and interesting textures. It contrasts the single they released a few weeks back, "Head for the Hills," which had a more organic sound similar to "Country Sleep." But both tracks get me equally excited about the future of this band and what's to come from them.

// AFTER THE BEEP //
Chris Staples recently released a 13 track compilation album
recorded entirely on cell phones.
Staples says,
"I've been thinking, if a song is great you could record it on a walkman, or whatever is laying around and the soul of that great song will be communicated. It doesn't matter what kind of paper a great book is printed on as long as you can read it. Thats the analogy I always use. Anyway, all these songs were recorded on cell phones and nothing else. I have many very talented musicmaker friends, so thanks to them for participating."
This is an incredibly honest album, with nothing to hide behind. I stumbled upon it a few months ago while on a bit of a Chris Staples kick and still haven't grown tired of it. I truly believe in the idea behind this album, and the deep breath it takes to reflect upon what music really is.
Modern music is so loud, and I don't mean the volume. Listeners wait for a fat beat to drop or something to make them feel like dancing, and if the track doesn't deliver in the first 30 seconds they move on to something that will. This album foregoes the decorations, but lacks nothing in beauty. Artists such as Andy Hull, Chris Staples, Telekinesis, Bell Plaines, and more appear throughout. This is an album to be intentionally listened to, and is worth every second of your time.
listen and enjoy.

1-800 DINOSAUR // New James Blake
1-800 Dinosaur is a brand new label preparing new releases from James Blake and more to come. The label was actually started by James and a few others, and what I've heard has got me very excited about what's to come from these guys. Official releases should be coming later this year, and they have already released several excellent tracks digitally. The first official release that has been announced is a 12" with a new track "And Holy Ghost," and a dub version of "Voyeur."
1-800 Dinosaur has released some tracks and radio shows on Sound Cloud that give a glimpse into where James Blake is going with his music. At the same time, some of the remixes are reminiscent of his first EP releases like "CMYK" and "Klavierwerke." You can stream the tracks they've released below, but be on the look out for more from these guys soon.

New Album from Com Truise "Wave 1"
The much anticipated wait is finally over, Com Truise dropped his third album "Wave 1" via Ghostly International today. Following the theme of retro-futurism displayed on his previous albums "Wave 1" is filled with modular sounds, super fat drum sounds, bit crushed textures, thumpy bass lines, and tight leads. The movement through "Wave 1" invokes themes from a retro-futuristic sci-fi themed movie score taking you to the unexplored universe of Seth Haley's musical soundscapes.

METRONOMY - "The Look"
Haven't seen the sun in a few days + seasonal affective disorder is certainly swallowing me up + fogging my creativity. I think we are all in the need of some good hoppy dance music. My friend recommended me this band while we were playing on the gamecube (#yolo). Metronomy puts a modern twist on bands like DEVO + David Bowie. It's always a plus with bands who utilize a good synth. Enjoy!
