ALBUM OF THE WEEK (I couldn't wait till friday) // Hammock - Departure Songs
I fell in love with hammock when I listened to their album Kinetic for the first time. They could be thrown in the same genre as Sigur Ròs or Explosions in the Sky but they are from the generic instrumental ambient band. Hammock brings textures and emotions that cant be compared with any other band. They're music is simply beautiful and imaginative. Hope you enjoy this beautiful piece of music creation. I would recommend throwing in some ear buds while your in bed and closing your eyes and see where it takes you.

INTO THE WILD SOUNDTRACK // Eddie Vedder
Into the Wild is one of my favorite movies and I don't think the movie would have the same punch that it has without Eddie Vedder's addition to this film. Eddie Vedder throws another emotional aspect to this film and the best example the "The Wolf" scene. Love this movie, love this soundtrack.
Father John Misty - Fear Fun
Father John Misty is lead and was created by Josh Tillman, who is also the drummer for Fleet Foxes and has release multiple solo albums under the name J. Tillman. I have always been a huge fan of him because of his emotional solo albums. Father John Misty is a new chapter of his life and is a movement away from the person he created in his J. Tillman projects through his projects. His KEXP session is really cool and he also goes in depth on what his music has meant to him and what he is trying to say through his music. I recommend watching that video. I have also included the stream of Father John Misty's Fear Fun album below. Happy Listening!

NEW STUFF // Other Lives - Mind the Gap EP
Other lives is an incredible band and never cease to impress me with their releases. This EP is a short 4 song tease and is sick. It includes a remix by Atoms for Peace and a response to "Dustbowl III" off the Tamer Animal Record with "Dustbowl". The first song "Take Us Alive" is a little different than the normal other lives feel and is filled with poly-rhythms and has more of a loopish feel. I would seriously recommend digging into this EP and giving it a solid 2 or 3 listens. That shouldnt be a problem because of how short it is. Happy Listening!

Past Is Prologue by Tycho

This is one of my favorite electronic albums of all time and after doing some research I discovered ghostly's description of this album and thought that it couldn't be put any other way. So here is the description of Tycho's album Past Is Prologue from ghostly.com.
GHOSTLY INTERNATIONAL:
Tycho’s Past Is Prologue has a storied history. The tracks began as Sunrise Projector, Tycho’s 2004 full-length debut on Gammaphone records; the record was then expanded and reissued in 2006 as Past Is Prologue on Merck records; and now, Ghostly International is reissuing Tycho’s original masterwork, re-introducing graphic designer / producer Scott Hansen’s musical universe: a lush, expansive imaginary landscape of sepia-toned keyboards, warm downtempo beats, and mile after mile of sun-dappled beauty.
Scott Hansen’s alter-ego is as graphic designer ISO50, and his visual work and musical creations share a similar aesthetic: saturated, faintly nostalgic tones, artfully arranged compositions, with a complex internal rhythm and color-outside-the-lines joy that’s both easy on the eyes/ears and tremendously addictive. Past Is Prologue is an ideal point of entry into Tycho’s world: “Dictaphone’s Lament” is an anthemic rush of melody and rhythm with cross-panned, dueling basslines and a gauzy, late-afternoon feel; “Send and Receive” sounds like a music box designed by Brian Eno, a fine mesh of melodic plips and plops and brisk, skittering hi-hats. The title track is a low-level stunner, splitting the difference between Rhodes-heavy ambient and drum ‘n bass—both laid-back and frantic. Past Is Prologue also includes remixes from Dusty Brown, Chachi Jones, and Nautilis, as well as a new remix of “From Home” by Mux Mool, in which the Brooklyn producer expands the modest ambient swell of the original into a bass-heavy beat symphony.
As its title implies, Past Is Prologue is only the beginning. In the years since its initial release, Scott Hansen has been refining his approach, woodshedding new material and buffing it until it shines like polished brass. For Tycho, the past is prologue to a limitless future.

Song of the Week: "Fade and Then Return" by William Fitzsimmons
Fitzsimmons describes his sound as "a gentle mixture of folk-rock and electronica applied to carefully written songs that, at their best, delivered a quiet emotional punch". With his quite hushed indie tones he is very similar to Sufjan Stevens and Iron & Wine.
Album of the Week: D - White Denim
Two words to describe this album: Complex and Vintage. This album has some 70s vibes filled with a warm analog drum sound and guitar solos. White Denim describes themselves as a "spastic indie rock trio". Its hard for one to guess that its just three guys behind their full sound. "Burnished" was the first track that I heard of this album and fell in love with the sound. White Denim is the american version of the Australian reining Tame Impala. They hail from Austin and offer an interesting and complex sound.

James Blake - James Blake
Where to start about the London native James Blake. I stumbled upon him a couple months ago on a english electronic music blog and fell in love ever since. He has a unique way of turing the simple into something marvelously complex. A perfect example of this is in his song "I Never Learnt To Share". The simple line of "My brother and my sister don't speak to me // But I don't blame them, I don't blame them" is progressively added harmonies. He has a way of implementing dissonance in a good way and because of this he isn't just another electronic artist from England. His harmony filled lines are backed by a complex set of drum loops and synths resulting in the final "James Blake" sound. His vocals remind me of gospel / blues sort of feel and evoke emotion throughout the song and album. This theme progresses throughout his self titled album "James Blake" and results in something beautiful. Enjoy.

Night Beds "Every Fire; Every Joy" / "Country Sleep"
I can't remember exactly when it was but my sister showed me this band on facebook called night beds. The reason she knew about them was because a friend of ours was managing Night Beds in Nashville, TN. After listening to a couple songs I fell in love with the style of the music. What did it for me was the complex drumming alongside sweet melodies and harmonies. Night Beds is one of a kind and I couldn't find anything else like them. Because of this fact they started to get recognized, and appeared on Daytrotter along with some music sites. They were hyping up the release of a new album called "Country Sleep" but went over the expected release date of early November. Me being a disappointed fan and wanted some new music asked for a song of the new album to hold me over a couple more weeks so Winston (Frontman) hooked me up with "Cherry Blossoms" a beautiful song. A couple weeks passed and no release so I just straight up asked for the album and he gave it to me haha. The only reason it worked this way was because of their small following at the time. Some time passed and all of Night Beds hard work payed off with a record deal from Dead Oceans who has Tallest Man On Earth signed. So recently with their new deal they released Every Fire; Every Joy again with new album art. Im excited to see where this fantastic band will go in the future. Enjoy

2. Forest Devil

Delta Spirit - The Waits Room EP
This is one of my all time favorite Albums and I have the honor of owning one of the few 300 Vinyls that Delta Spirit pressed. This album has a bluesy feel and is slower than any of their other albums. One thing I love about this album is the emotion you can feel through the lyrics and melodies. Matt (Lead) tells a story in every song and creates a mural from all the imagrery in all his songs, because of this Delta Spirit is one of my all time favorite bands. This album was recorded right around the same time that "History From Below" was recorded. It was recorded at Prairie Sun in Cotati, CA. All the songs on this EP were mixed by Elijah Thomson except for "Bushwick Blues" and "Devil Knows You're Dead" which were mixed by Delta Spirits very own Kelly Winrich. Kelly mixed these songs at The Cave in San Clemente, CA which is also where Delta Spirit recorded their debut album "I Think I've Found It" and their second release "Ode To Sunshine". This EP is named after the room that they recorded it in at Prairie Sun:
The second track "Bushwick Blues" was actually how the song was supposed to be but the rest of the band thought it would be better sped up and you can hear it in this format on "History From Below". I love both versions but there is something about the original that makes it special. I think its the harmonica filled transitions that really gives it some emotional power. This is an almost all original album except for "John Henry"which is adapted from a song by W. T. Blankenship from the early 1900's. Honestly I cant get enough of this album, I have had this album on repeat ever since it was released. I have the tendency to over listen to bands and get sick of their albums but this album is different, no matter how many times I listen to it it doesn't get old to me. Its probably because of all the emotions and memories that it stirs in me. Ill stop rambling sorry.. Anyways here is a video of "Bushwick Blues" so you can get a feel of where they recorded it.

I could ramble on about this band for hours but I will spare you, enjoy.
ps this isn't my last Delta Spirit review
Ffunny Ffriends by Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Love the Analog recording vibes in this song. They did a really good job at recreating a vintage sound.

ONUINU - Mirror Gazer
Ever since I stumbled upon Portland based ONUINU's band camp I was hooked on the two or three songs that he had up at the time. The progression and melodies are really unique and I haven't really heard anything like him before. So after doing some research on his facebook page I figured out that he was releasing Mirror Gazer late in September and was anxious for the release. Well its out and it is most dope. I hope you enjoy.
